    Grateful for a Dead tour?

    Grateful Dead Tickets

When The Grateful Dead used to sell their tickets via mail order, the tickets were works of art.  The tickets I have photographed here were the last mail order tickets that I purchased in 1993.  I photographed them because I knew that they were a very high quality product. The process of the raised lettering is called thermography.  A very thick ink is printed onto the paper and then it is heat dried.  But with these tickets, before the ink was dried, tiny little sprinkles of color were sprinkled onto the ink while it was still tacky.  This is a first rate print job and was a respectable ticket to hold!  It was almost a sin to have anyone tear them in half!  I guess that's what motivated me to photograph them while they were still in one piece.  The music never stops!
