Does the album hold up? |
White Light/White Heat
A sonic noise-fest of delight. While all four Lou Reed involved VU albums are gold, this one stands out for me. It was brilliant thirteen years ago and it gave an 18 year old kid permission to play the guitar less focused around technical skill, and more one the passion and fury. Now at 31, it has the same fire. The songs are raw and relentless. Lou and Streling's guitar playing is bolder than any other their other recordings. Also, people always reference "Heroin" as being such an explicit song, and it makes me wonder if they have ever heard "Sister Ray". To quote: "I'm searching for my mainline, I haven't got the time-time, too busy sucking on a ding-dong".
Honorable mention album: Neutral Milk Hotel- In the Areoplane Over the Sea
