    Inauguration: Your view of history

    More from bradbailey

Talking about the inauguration with Earle Lee, Jr, the director of the Boys' Choir of Tallahassee

The Inauguration of Barack Obama as President of the United States will be an unprecedented media event. Over 1 Billion people will be watching the Swearing-In Ceremony on January 20, 2009. When Michelle Obama extended her invitation for the Boy's Choir of Tallahassee to perform at the Inauguration, it attracted national attention. The choir has performed in places as diverse as the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, St. Peter's Basilica, and the Oprah Winfrey show. Their network of celebrity admirers includes Tyler Perry, Barbara Bush, and Oprah Windrey, among other. The choir is unique in that in mentors the young men, providing them with an escape from the violence and drugs that inhabit their neighborhoods. Before every rehearsal, there is a study hall that lasts two hours. The choir is a community-based outreach program for boys, ages 8-18, who are enrolled in schools throughout the Tallahassee area. The group's mission is to foster academic excellence, build character and self esteem, develop interpersonal skills and help boys realize their full potential. The boys maintain strong grade point averages and continuous enrollment in local colleges and universities. The choir's website can be accessed at http://www.boyschoirtlh.org We will be at the heart of the Inauguration, not only transmitting back events as they are happening real time, but shooting footage to be edited into a documentary format to be produced for television, online, and other distribution networks. In a documentary format, we can create a powerful story arc, interweaving personal narratives and larger stories on the Inauguration. With these ideas as a template, it is our goal to come back with one of the boldest, most original, and most direct vantage points of this monumental event. From the moment the young men leave Tallahassee to the moment they return, we will document their entire trip. The personal stories of the young men are very compelling, from the young man that died last year of Sickle-Cell Anemia, to the rehabilitation of several members from inner city violence. We will solicit interviews with politicians and celebrities who will be attending the events, and talk to the Choir members' families, recording their reactions to the events taking place. This trip is of extreme media interest. Similarly, Florida A & M University's Marching 100 band, performing at the Inauguration parade, will be accompanied by embedded journalists documenting their trip. I will be the only journalist covering the Boy's Choir of Tallahassee, which is generating national news interest. For more information please visit the official website at http://www.dailybailey.tv
