Inauguration: Your view of history |
TEARS of JOY
I was only 5 1/2 when MLK made his "I have a Dream" speech and I can remember watching a 13 inch black and white no cable televison. The voice coming across the waves and the expression on my fathers face as he shook his head. Not knowing what was going on I watches as my father took out a Kool filter king and began walking along the narrow window pain. He worked as the president of the local EEO office and he followed the news very closely. Some ten years he was moving jobs and now was working for a bigger foundation. Just remembering the look on his face and those words that still play every year on the "King" holiday and the the songs that play everyday by the popular rappers. August 2006 when this young man announces that he is running for president. As the race went and it was down to two. After the second debate I knew we had it. Nov. 4th the tears began to roll and have not stopped. I am so proud of how far we have come.
