    Surviving a tough economy

    More from samraja

Losing a Job is a Family thing... but you can make it!

My husband lost his job of 8 years, we had just purchased a home and we were trying to sell a home.  His income was the greater one and when he lost it, he was so depress.... Baby, that is when the Wife and family stepped in.

First thing I did was gather all the income expenses and put them together. I called Directv and other services and told them we were leaving. The compromised and gave us come free channels for over 6 months which brought the bills down. Then I found cheaper insurance for the cars and I did. I wanted new furniture but I am a yard sale person. I wanted to redo our guest room so I stary curb shopping. ( that's when people throw things out) Finding things people put on the street that had potential and repairing it and puting it in the house.  Well the truth, I had been doing that for years,  last year was the best year. I do not go to macys I go to the thrift store for my clothes. The only thing we have is a house note and a bills to run the house. We paid cash for our cars and have no car note.  I am so happy that I don't care if I never go to get nothing new again. (lol)

for food I went to my dad's shop and I took parts and made a freezer work to put in the  side house.  I worked on cars this summer for extra money to spend as well as doing legal work (it is good to have trades). I let him know that I had his back and that it was only material. When he was down I let him know we are not the only one and most of all, we kept in contact with our Mortgage to let them know so they could work with us. I knew he was worried, but the most important thing was that we had to keep our head about it. My faith in God played a major role too.  If you come to my home you would never know i got it from the yard sale.  From time to time we go out to eat and other things.

When my husband was not having luck, I called employers and did exactly what the woman with the resume did. I was on line looking for my husband a job day and night. I called friends that I knew could help him and I printed business cards.  Tell that woman it works becuase my husband got a  part time job. We eat beans and this spring I am planting a garden. I found out last year I was a diabetic and the medication kinda hit us. I am not a medication person so I am doing what I have to do and beating it.

Finally, this is America. Things are hard and people are losing there jobs, but I am here to tell you that taking your life is not the answer. Market your Spouse, I did and it works. He is about to go to school and get job training and yeah, I worked on that too while he was looking for a job.  Don't make your Spouse feel that burden if for one person to carry or no one understand. This is a team thing and you assure your Spouse that it will be alright, because it will.  Talk to your chidlren about what is going on. Don't be shame to say I have no money. I have a change bank and we use that just in case. Most of all Call your creditors, We are going to get out of this and besides,  We are creative, the land of opportunity.... We are going to come out strong.
