Urine Samples May Tie Bonds to Steroid Use

Federal prosecutors could have evidence that Barry Bonds used steroids other than the "cream" and the "clear", according a report on the Web site of The New York Times.  Traces of steroids were found in urine samples authorities obtained in the investigation, the Times said, citing an anonymous source who the paper said looked over the evidence.  Bonds denied knowingly taking performance-enhancing drugs in 2003 grand jury testimony, and said that he didn't think the "cream" and the "clear" were performance-enhancing drugs at that time, the Times said. He also denied ever taking steroids.  This testimony led to Bonds indictment on perjury charges in 2007.  Any evidence that Bonds used steroids other than the "cream" and the "clear" could affect his defense, because it is unclear whether federal law considered the "cream" and the "clear" steroids when Bonds testified, according to the Times.  Bonds' statement to the grand jury about never receiving injections from his former trainer Greg Anderson could also be in doubt, according to the Times, since most steroids are taken through needles.  Bonds' trial begins March 2.
