This iReport is part of an assignment:
When comic books scared the nation |
Tales of the Crypt
I remember reading Tales from the Crypt when I was 10 years old. That's about when such comic books were banned. I also read the Blue Fairy Book and Alice in Wonderland about that time, too. My favorite memory is of the acid spewing out of the shower head and melting one of the characters. The melted one wasn't necessarily the bad guy either.
I thought it was silly that comics were banned because they were a bad influence; even at that young age I was smarter than that. I seem to have grown up normally. Went to college, got married, taught for 32 years. Read all Stephen King's books, Harry Potters, science fiction, mystery, classics, plays, poetry. One thing the comics did was to enable my imagination to work even when there were graphics. Prepared me for T.V.
