Hmm.Can Not Eating Cause A Bad Case of Politicians Gone Wild?

I read this story about an elected official who was arrested for DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. The quote that really disburbs me from the story is 'Because she didn't have a lot to eat, "I didn't realize how fast the alcohol would impact me'. Let me make this real simple Miss Commish. Drinking, Driving and Leaving the scene of an accident should not be rationalized as ' Because she didn't have a lot to eat, "I didn't realize how fast the alcohol would impact me' Are you going to go into the court and say 'Because she didn't have a lot to eat, "I didn't realize how fast the alcohol would impact me' If you would have injured or maimed someone would you have said Because she didn't have a lot to eat, "I didn't realize how fast the alcohol would impact me Next time hit a drive thru window before blowing one out on the breathalyzer... What say you fellow iReporters about the excuse of 'Because she didn't have a lot to eat, "I didn't realize how fast the alcohol would impact me' Me thinks its just a lot of B.S... -
Story: Macomb County commissioner is shamed by her drunken-driving arrest BY STEVE NEAVLING • FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER • February 3, 2009 Macomb County Commissioner Irene Kepler said she felt "complete shame and embarrassment" following her arrest on charges of drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident last weekend in Royal Oak. "I'm taking full responsibility for this," Kepler, D-Roseville, told the Free Press on Monday in a story first reported on freep.com. "This was a huge mistake and completely out of character." Kepler, who was elected to her first term on the county board of commissioners in November, said Saturday night was the first time she drank alcohol since undergoing gastric surgery to reduce her stomach capacity in December. She said the surgery follows 15 years of battling bulimia, an eating disorder. Because she didn't have a lot to eat, "I didn't realize how fast the alcohol would impact me," said Kepler, a former Roseville councilwoman. Royal Oak Police said Kepler was drunk when she was behind the wheel shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday and struck a parked car. About two blocks away, police saw Kepler sitting in her damaged car parked along the road and arrested her. Kepler spent early Sunday in jail and was released. She is expected to appear for arraignment within the next two weeks on the charges. +Contact STEVE NEAVLING at 586-826-7255 or http://www.ireport.com/upload/#.+ Link: +http://www.freep.com/article/20090203/NEWS04/902030366+
