How we are planning our dream wedding to fit our budget

My fiancé and I are trying to plan a dream wedding that accommodates our budget in this economy. Here are a few helpful tips we are keeping in mind:

    1. Pick the one thing that is most important to you both and allow that to be the one thing you "splurge" on.

To some this may be a wedding dress, it may be a dj or band, it may be the location, it may be the photographer, or even a honeymoon. But remember to keep it to one item or before you know it you are in over your head and over your budget!

    2. Don't even bother looking at things outside of your price range

For us girls this is hard but believe me, the last thing you want to worry about after you wedding is a pile of debt! There are so many ways to have your dream wedding without spending outside of your means. Use resources like theknot.com and chat with brides in your area. It might open your mind up to ideas you never thought about.

    3. Consider venues that can accommodate both the ceremony and reception.

This is not only convenient for the guests, but it saves on transportation costs which can quickly add up. For out of town or out of state weddings, check out having your wedding at a hotel. Most times the hotel will include a discounted block of rooms and also include a suite for the bride and groom the night of the wedding!

    4. Print your own save the dates and invitations.

How many invitations have you received and simply thrown away after the wedding? Martha Stewart Wedding Magazine has some great DIY (do it yourself) ideas. And plus it is one more reason to have the girls over for some wine and help you put them together!!

    5. Consider if a videographer is a needed expense.

We have decided not to hire a videographer but to use MicroSoft Movie Maker and create a video that we can create ourselves and even put it to music! Also save money by creating DIY wedding albums. MyPublisher.com is a great online tool that allows you to create your own professional looking album for under $100!

    6. Remember "it doesn't hurt to ask"

What is the worst they can say.......no. Its worth a try and you might get pleasantly surprised.

    _7. HAVE FUN!
