This iReport is part of an assignment:
Wildfires blazing near you |
Horror Saturday Bushfires 3
These series of images show more than meets the eye, such as the lucky escape this house shows surrounded by blackened earth, to the remains of a burnt out car showing the still green foothills in the background. These hills of Upwey and Upper Ferntree Gully, escaped hells fury on Saturday.
The locals mention that they heard the Fire Station sirens sound and looking outside their windows to see flames in the front yards allready, and one local cancer patient is lucky to survive as his neighbour came to his rescue and evacuated the cancer patient to safety. We hear of stories such as this and the CFA heroes that put their lives on the line for the sake of others and some are doing it voluntarily.
In total 75 Firefighters,14 trucks and 2 helifighters tackled the blaze in Upper Ferntree Gully to bring it under control before it had a chance to spread into the Dandenong Ranges. 1 Firefighter was severely injured when a falling tree hit the firetruck.
And now its a wainting game as temperatures are set to soar once again in the coming weeks.
