Stimulus thoughts: What you'd fix first |
Vasectomy, my Valentine! 8 babies and no father?
We have discussed options for birth control over the years. Recent news about the 8 babies made us talk about babies again. ABC We believe it was unethical of the doctors to provide fertility treatments for a mother of 6 to become pregnant in the first place. Such treatment should result in loss of medical license if there is no father for the huge existing family and the mother has a history of mental illness. Worse yet, to allow her to keep all 8 fetuses should be criminal. 8 lives were at risk of serious birth defects and there was risk to the health of the mother as well. I would expect to read something like this, what this woman has done, in a Stephen King horror story, but not in the news. ABC So we started the same old conversation again. We are a healthy, educated, reasonable good looking, and financially secure couple, and we have had a wonderful loving and supportive relationship for the past 14 years. Our friends and family have been asking us why are we not having any cute little babies. ABC I have decided not to have children of my own. Since my "husband" (there is no common law marriage in CA) cannot become pregnant, I thought his decision would be more about living with me or with someone who wants to have children. He told me that has nothing to do with his decision. ABC On Friday the 13th, he will have a vasectomy. I have always thought he is a very brave man. Now I know for sure he is not even superstitious. ABC We looked at the projected demographics 30-50 years from now. Our children would belong to a minority in a country which would offer them less opportunities than we have today. ABC USA will most likely be politically deeply rooted in socialism by 2050. With the Obama administration we are headed in that direction. The economic outlook does not look good if capitalism is replaced by social programs and a huge goverment. Both of us are for small government and free capitalism. So we thank President Obama for cementing our decision sooner rather than later. ABC The world population keeps increasing and causes competition for resources like food , energy, fresh air, and clean water. Under distressing conditions, more fraud will take place. The latest headlines from food-borne deaths and illnesses will continue, and we believe they will only increase. The current culture in the USA is not ideal for children, and we feel it will not improve. If we had children, they themselves would be asking the same question: why should I bring another human being into this world. ABC We have always known we don't NEED children, like this mother of 14 did. We can be happy and live full lives with less to worry about. We can use our time and resources to benefit other families who struggle with supporting their children. ABC So we will celebrate this Valentine's Day knowing that our love will not produce new branches into the family tree. We already have 4 girls and 5 boys to carry the genes for new life if they choose to do so in the future. ABC We are devoted to supporting our nieces and nephews with our time and love, and we are ready to care for them if need be. We are also devoted to improving the environment, by volunteering and supporting organizations such as Ducks Unlimited, and the Sierra Club. ABC I put this report under the stimulus plan and survival stories because this is one way to make sure we do not have children in this world who will have a really hard time trying to survive all the changes the world will see during the next 1 to 100 years. ABC I would love to hear your thoughts on having children, loving them, or worrying about their future. ABC Do you think there is something wrong with not wanting children?
