    The health care crisis

    More from JonesMJ

    Vaccines do not equal Autism.

My husband is a Registered Nurse, and for several years he has been slapping his forehead in frustration. Scores of people are refusing to have their kids vaccinated out of fear that it may cause autism, despite respected physicians, the health care community and scientists worldwide repeating that no studies prove this to be true.

Still, folks come into his doctors' offices acting as if they know more than the doctor, because they "read it on the internet."

What happened to trusting the healthcare professional who had 10+ years of higher education to make sure you and your family are well talken care of?

Fear breeds ignorance, and ignorance breeds more fear... which in turn breeds non-action.

People seem to think that their child will be the only one not vaccinated; therefore they will be protected against communicable diesases. NOT TRUE. There are many more like you out there thinking the same thing and following suit. This non-action on the parents' part will lead to nothing but a recurrence of diseases we had previously all but eradicated (THANKS TO VACCINES).

Side note: I am terribly sorry for the people who have children with autism, who suffer each day. I am not poking fun at nor downplaying the agony you've been through, nor the trials you face in the future due to this illness.

But science has spoken: The vaccines are not responsible for your child's autism. Speaking as the spouse of a healthcare professional, we are certain that someday modern medicine will find the real culprit. And scientists are not going to stop trying just because childhood vaccines were ruled out as the cause.

Now please, for God's sake, America... go get your children vaccinated now! And don't rely on the hope that since your neighbor took the "risk" and got their kids' shots, then your kid will be just fine. We don't need a new epidemic.

Don't become ignorant through fear. Become educated and do the right thing.
