Here are some pictures of the famous Chongqing Nail house back it was still there.

A big shopping mall was to be build on top of the ground where this place was and the owners of the house were quite resistant to simply evacuate their house when they were ordered to. In fact the whole neighborhood was up in protest for a while (long before the story was news) but in the end only one house was left standing, now its gone and a the large mall is being built.

All pictures taken by myself over the several months things were happening there. I lived close by and often took some time to go down into the neighborhood and talk to the people and snap some photos. The EXIF date of the earliest set of photos I took (the one of the girl in glasses) shows June 24th 2005.

Photo 6: Inside of one of the houses a little girl shows off her sunglasses to me. Their tiny 10 square meter house made of rubble and old advertisement boards had 5 people living in it.
