    How we first met[1]

    Memories for Life

It was 5 a.m. and like any other day, I got up, and got myself ready to go to work.  And like most days it started out pretty normal.  Being that breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, I decided that this day however was going to be a little different.  I was going to skip my oatmeal and wheat toast and go for the big kahuna.  I was going to get a breakfast burrito.  So... I grabbed my money, walked upstairs to the cafeteria, ordered the burrito, and walked over to the cash register to pay for my meal.  As I reached in my pocket to grab the money while waiting to hear the price, I looked up expecting to see the normal cashier that had been selling me oatmeal and wheat toast for months.  Instead, I found myself short of breath and wanting to rub my eyes because who I did see, was a person you only see in your dreams.

Time passed and many breakfast burritos were eaten.  Small 30 second conversations ensued and before I knew it.... I found myself enjoying giving my money away, as paying for my breakfast burrito (or anything else for that matter) became the best part of my day.  I found myself dressing better for work, shaving everyday, and even matching my belt to my shoes.  I was excited to come to work, and excited to see this person, who unknown to me, was about to turn my world upside down.

Like many other employees of corporate America, I work in a cube farm... so its tight quarters for most of the day.  A very good friend of mine happens to sit right next to me, and in short time, was well aware that I had been severely hit with cupid's arrow.  Each day as I returned to my desk with my coveted breakfast burrito, I said to him, "you know, one of these days, I really am going to ask her out for drinks."  And each day he replied with a simple, "sooo..  quit talking about it, and go do it!"

Normal like most others, I had been working diligently for a few hours when a co-worker from across the room sent me an instant message....  it read "so, do you think Renee is cute?"  I replied, "who is Renee?" Matt then described to me, that Renee was the cashier from the cafeteria, and that it would be "in my best interest to go up and talk to her..."  In one of our brief conversations, I had asked Renee if she liked happy hours.......... and then walked away. (I think I got nervous)  So this time, I was actually going to see if maybe she'd like happy hour, but maybe with me as well.  So I headed up to the cafeteria, grabbed something to buy, and walk right up to her.  I asked her if she remembered me asking if she liked happy hours, as she said she remember, I then said.. "Well I have an offer for you, how about you join me for happy hour sometime soon?"  Her reply, (which by the way couldn't have been more perfect) was, "I have a better offer.."  And then invited me to a night, I will never forget.

A first date at a food tasting venue, a week later, a first kiss in a hammock looking up at the stars.  A Christmas ice skating on an open lake, and once of the most romantic Valentines Day's that one can think of.  These can only begin to describe the memories that Renee and I have created together...  I tell her as often as I can that I feel like the luckiest man alive.  My problems and stress fade away.  I lose focus of everything as I realize that meeting her has shown me something I have not yet experienced.  She is my truth in happiness.  She is my love.  She is unforgettable, and I am thankful for every minute I now get to spend with Renee.
