It's ridiculous that a photo of such a low-level crime as smoking marijuana should initiate an investigation of illegal wrong-doing. Don't the police have more important things to do with our money? I am an advocate of legalizing all drugs. I have done much research on the subject and my informed opinion is that it will not increase drug use in America, and would very possibly reduce drug use, while saving tax payers money. It costs $30,000/yr to house a prisoner in the U.S. . Non-violent drug offenders can not support their families and the government often bears that cost. Gang activity is directly linked to prohibition of drugs, as are the cartels of Mexico and South America. Make drugs legal, and we will automatically reduce crime. Spend money saved on effective prevention, education, and training programs that help people make healthy decisions and live productive lives. We should get rid of the Drug Czar position and start getting serious about developing a sane and cost-effective strategy for reducing drug use and taking the crime out of addiction and poverty.
