Manila to La Union Scenic Trip (Philippines)

If you are good to travel six hours from Manila, then La Union is for you especially if you enjoy a scenic trip.

The Capas People’s Park, a memorial for the Death March in Tarlac Capas is one of the things you will spot. This is to commemorate the 75,000 (approximate) American and Filipino prisoners of war captured by the Japanese and forcefully marched 88 miles. The forced march from Mariveles to Camp O’Donnel was grueling that the POW were bayoneted, kicked and ran over by trucks thus, only 54,000 arrived at the destination. Pointing up in the sky, you can easily spot this while traversing the highway.

Several Churches can be spotted, and these include the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, San Nicholas, Basilica of our Lady of Charity and Our Lady of Grace Parish Church.

Once in La Union, there are several places one can go to. The Filipino Chinese Friendship Pagoda can be located on top of a hill and watching the sun set over La Union can be very refreshing.

If you are up for ruins, then the Pindangan ruins is a good spot for some historical reference. It was once a church of San Fernando, built in 1786. The name Pindangan was derived from Ilocano (a local dialect) which is a traditional process of fish drying. It was damaged in 1892 and further damaged during World War 2.

La Union is also known to host water sports such as surfing, wake and body boarding.
