This iReport is part of an assignment:
Do you wear a religious garment? |
This minister is not Christian!
Please note, that photo is of a model for the garment, not myself.
I am a minister. I'm also young (just past 30) and passably cute... not your mental picture of a minister. I often have meetings with couples who want to get married, and I wear the Friar Tuck shirt and collar simply so I may be easily recognized in a crowd as the person they've come to see. Consequently, sometimes I'm wearing it around town. Sometimes they request I wear it for their wedding ceremony, which I'm happy to do if they desire it.
However...I am not a Christian, of ANY flavor. People see the shirt and collar and assume that Christianity is where I'm coming from. Even at wedding trade shows, other ministers assume that I'm perhaps Episcopalian, as they ordain women.
Quite to the contrary, I follow Religious Science, which rejects "revealed religions" outright. We don't even believe in a personal deity, much less one with several faces and the "staff" of saints and angels.
Bottom line, no one knows the intent behind another's attire unless they ask.
