Kids Write the Darndest Things
Art Linkletter comes to mind. I discovered my autistic four year old Zachary writing this with his magnetic letters during milk and cookie time last night. This is real, with no prompting or help. Just a little boy writing about what he loves best.
Zach, who has a lovely and fun loving personality, has very little spoken language. He can say "stand up", "sit down", and "pick me up", he can say his name, but he needs to be prompted to say "bye-bye" and cannot tell me he is hungry or thirsty. Recently, he has fallen in love with letters. Mostly he uses phrases from his videos: "Walt Disney", "Pixar", and "The End" are his favorite things to spell. Last night showed that he has many other ideas locked up inside.
