Campaign 2008 |
The Democratic Way
Look! Up in the sky! Another primary.
Hillary Clinton trounced Barack Obama in the West Virginia primary last night, by a 2 to 1 margin. As expected.
She vows to fight on through to June 3rd. But why?
Speculation runs rampant. Senator Clinton claims she wants ‘every voice heard’. Nothing wrong with that in theory. But as this protracted affair continues, she runs the risk of damaging the presumptive nominee Obama and bolstering the chances of victory for the Republicans. Is she delusional about getting the nomination, when the math doesn’t add up? Could this be the groundwork for a 2012 run? And why would she jeopardize a plum spot in the Senate hierarchy a grateful party would surely bestow upon her if she conceded now?
Only she knows.
Truth, justice and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory sometimes seems the Democratic way.
