Barbie's turning 50 |
My favorite Barbie, 1970
In 1970, when I was 9 years, old my father gave me the only Christmas present I ever remember getting from him: a Sears special edition Talking Barbie. My parents were divorced and money was always too tight to get things like Barbie dolls. I had to drool over the closet full of Barbies that belonged to the "only child" girl across the street. But that year, I also got a talking PJ doll from "Santa", so I was in Barbie heaven! My Talking Barbie no longer talks, and she and PJ are both broken now, but she is still my all-time favorite Barbie doll. The above photo is me on Christmas Day 1970 holding my beloved new Talking Barbie!
