Thai - Burma border, crossing for food
Here are some pictures of the Burmese crossing over to Thailand to get basic needs to send back home to help their family and friends.
The border town of Thailand, Mae Sot has reported very high sales in all basic needs like toilet paper, soap, shampoo along with all construction materials like metal sheets, nails for making temp shelter.
The picture is standing on the Thai side looking over at Burma. Although there is a bridge to cross, (friendship bridge) many can not use it as the army will tax or even take from them on the Burma side.
Mae Sot, Thailand has annouced today that sales have rocketed in all the above items, and the goverment urges Thai people not to take advantage of the current situtation in Burma and hike prices. The local goverment has also released a warning to all shops against price hiking and said starting tomorrow they will send teams to check the shops to ensure this is not happening.
