This iReport is part of an assignment:
Same-sex marriage: Civil right vs. states' rights |
Gays & Lesbians VS. The United States of America
Hello ireporters ;
I have been doing some research, and stumbled accross the US Code of laws ;
Title 1- General provisions
Chapter 1- Rules of construction
Sec. 7- Definition of Marriage and Spouse ; mentions that the union of marriage is between one man and one woman.., and spouse is a person of the opposite sex married to a man or a women..
In the US Constitution Article 6- 2nd paragraph ; it mentions that the US Constitution and the Laws of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land ; and the Judges in every State are bound to support it, and any thing in the constitution or laws of a state to the contrary not withstanding..
This is not just an issue relating to California it's a National Law that prohibits any other union of marriage..
I am preparing to send a recomendation for a bill to my Rep. that will offer minority rights without having to rewrite a law or amend a constitution.., that way we can all be happy..
