Barbie's turning 50 |
Barbie Controversy? Please!
There's no reason for a Barbie controversy. People are trying to say the way she looks inspires eating disorders in women.
The reason she looks the way she does is the way same way guys dream of being wealthy and powerful rock stars or presidents or whatever.
Barbie is made skinny and attractive because that's reproduction. Skinny attractive people up to this point have been more likely to survive and exhibit bodily health, which from an instinctual point of view is all we're doing when we are attracted to someone.
If you made a "fat girl" barbie no one would buy it. The marketplace defines the products, not the other way around.
