Young Veterans Fight for local VA Hospital

On March 14, 2009, young Veterans from all over South Texas will walk 250 miles North to San Antonio, Texas.  It will take them six days to reach there goal.

The walk will start at the Dustin Sekula Memorial Library in Edinburg, Texas.  Dustin Sekula was the first service member from the Rio Grande Valley to die in Iraq in 2004.

For years the Veterans of South Texas  have asked and faught for a VA Hospital.  The closest VA Hospital where these Veterans can recieve surgical procedures and urgent care is in San Antonio.

The issue of a local VA Hospital has become a kind of political football in the area, with many Legislators and Presidential Candidates pledging to help build a hospital only to forget about it after they had won.

The young Veterans are trying to make sure that doesn't happen again.

Jesus Bocanegra and Reynaldo Leal are the two Iraq War Veterans who have organized the walk.
