Historic Longboard Ski Race
Ski fans of all ages
turned out during a snowstorm on Sunday for the historic longboard ski
race in Johnsville, California, the birthplace of North American ski
racing. Competitors wore period costume and strapped on wooden skis
just like Norwegian miners used in the 1860s when they introduced the
sport to the Americas. Humboldt State University Professor Vicky Sama
captured the event's sights and sounds.
