Road to Rescue -- Makings Ends Meet A Long Way From Home
Its not easy being laid off on three different occasions...its not a whole lot of fun.
The first time just kind of blind-sided me....The second time, the writing was on the wall, so I had come to expect it. And the third time, I kind of knew before it happened. So, I've gotten pretty good at being laid off.
To make ends meet right now, I'm keeping a close eye on my savings, and watching where my money is going very, very, very closely. Savings has become critically imporant now.
There are a lot of little extras that I've had to give up on. That four-dollar latte that I'd get at Starbucks? That's cut out now.
[Kettle Blowing]
[Packet Rips]
Now, for pennies on the dollar, I'm making them at home. Getting extras, like getting a hamburger, or going out to dinner with the girlfriend? Those are cut out now.
[DVD placed in player]
I no longer go out to movies -- I can't afford them. Now, if I want to watch movies, or be entertained...I watch DVDs.
In addition to everything else I've given up on...
[Static]
...Cable is going to be the next thing to go here.
[Resumes Drop on Desk]
My resume, right now, is the best weapon I have in being unemployed. Its everything an employer would want to know about me. And its my sales pitch to get back in the workforce.
In the worst case scenario, I guess, I'll go back to California. I don't want to, because Ohio is-- Columbus is -- where I feel at home at. Its where I feel at peace at. Its where I want to make my home at, and my living at. But if I'm forced to go home, then I'm forced to go home -- its just the situation, and I'll deal with it.
