Memories of actress Natasha Richardson |
Sports Helmets: Laws Needed?
Since the tragic death of Natasha Richardson's this past week, there has been much publicity about helmet laws. Since I am not much of an athlete, I wasn't even aware there was such a thing as a helmet for skiing and ice skating, but obviously there are. So why in the world are there no laws for wearing helmets in these two popular sporting activities? To think that someone could go for a private beginner's ski lesson and end up dieing is just unbelievable considering it could have easily been prevented by wearing a helmet. And more so, why don't more people wear them? All I ever see are photos of people in knitted ski hats or nothing at all on their heads unless they are professionals or highly skilled.
I also don't understand states that don't require motorcyle helmets.
I did find the above photo of children in helmets. This should become the norm for everyone.
