Three volunteers ensure birth of puppies 8 thousand of turtles and tortoises in the Amazon
Three officers of volunteers Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) managed to ensure the birth of 8 thousand of baby turtles, on the beaches of the Ecological Station (ESEC), in the Amazon. For six months, the team protected 285 holes during day and night and recorded an increase of 125% in baby turtles compared to the period in which the project of conservation of turtles in the region was executed for the first time, between 2007 and 2008. In this second season of the protection of the turtles, which began in September last year and ended the first half of March, the biggest increase in the number of pups was the turtle-of-the-Amazon, with 3,200 animals. Community participation was fundamental to the results of the work. These actions break the paradigm that a single person can not solve a problem. Volunteers Congratulations! Excellent example!
