This iReport is part of an assignment:
Just Imagine |
Next 100 Years
What do you think will be the same or change over the coming 100 years?
Observations:
1. War is very profitable for banks that lend money to all sides requiring the victor(s) to pay the debt of the loser(s).
2. War is very profitable for those that control necessites that are in limited supply.
3. Terrorists without resources are simply angry extremists with no means of letting others know.
4. Extremists, regardless of flavor, are easily manipulated.
5. The feasibility is increasing for a single uncontrolled wacko to come up with a biological or technological means of destroying all life.
6. Those in power will do everything possible to perpetuate that.
7. Freedom of the press is decreasing as mass media is now largely controlled by five major interests.
8. Fear and the availability of money are the easiest ways to control a society.
Assuming we live as a species ...
The world will still be a beautiful place.
We will have pandemics and some of us will survive.
Very much like subnets are used to limit the damage of computer viruses, societies will be segmented and travel limited to prevent the spread of biological viruses and ideas.
The location and health of humans will be centrally monitorable.
Where it serves the interests of those with resources or power, terrorism and war will be funded and fearmongering exploited.
Large banking concerns will control the world behind the scenes, much as they do today.
Mega-Corporations will visibly control everything worth controlling.
Those in power will still be in power.
Most of those struggling will become poor.
Those poor will largely remain poor.
Alternate sources of energy will be available, but will be intentionally limited and controlled.
Access to information that does not serve those in power will be highly restricted. "Freedom of the Press" and "Privacy" will be things discussed in long out-of-print textbooks on shelves.
Printed books will be a luxury item.
Those left on the Earth will be choking on their own wastes.
Longevity, opportunities, education, quality healthcare, and the physical trappings of wealth will be reserved for those that serve those with the power.
The ability to electronically hide will become a crime changing the nature of organized crime.
Human rights abuses and slavery will increase.
Sensationalism and spectacles will be the norm.
Much like today, in some places, people who buck the status quo will be imprisoned or put to death.
Much like today, certain technologies that would improve services and quality-of-life will not be permitted by governments on large-scale because they would put too many people out of work. As an example, it is possible now to make air flight completely automated. Where it is not economically feasible to maintain certain services (e.g., air flight), governments will take them over.
Cybernetic life will exist.
Virtual reality will be the opiate of the masses. It will also give rise to new forms of entertainment, secondary thought-monitoring, and viral marketing based on how you react and what you do in cyberspace.
For those with the resources, offspring traits will be determinable.
Limited childbirth and manditory sterilization will be the law.
The most impactful discovery would be the ability to control gravity/inertia.
