Even with Obama as president Haitians face deportations

Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world.  Even before the hurricanes hit the island this summer there were food riots, spiraling violence rates and ecological disaster in the form of extreme deforestation.

Then several hurricanes hit, flooding cities, killing hundreds and leaving many others without food, or the means to get any.

The conditions on the island were dire, people were starving, infrastructure was damage and a case could be made that those here illegally be allowed to stay due to extreme hardship in their native home.

But the bush administration, after a brief suspension, soon began sending Haitians back home regardless of the conditions on the island.

I thought that when the administration changed from Republican to Democratic.  That things would look a little better for the Haitians, but alas no!

According to this article, Obama gave extensions to Liberians, but Haitians were left in limbo

CaribWorldNews, WASHINGTON, D.C., Fri. Mar. 27, 2009: Haitians facing deportation remain in limbo are still awaiting word on temporary protected status. But this week, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services automatically extended through Sept. 30, 2009, employment authorization for Liberian nationals covered under Deferred Enforced Departure.

Mr. Obama, I know you have quite a bit on your plate, but if you get a chance... spare a thought for Haiti.
