Ever Had a Coyote Attack You?
It happened to my husband last winter at Copper Mountain. He was standing on a mountainside, alone, on his snowboard when a coyote came right up to him and grabbed his snowboard in its teeth. It jerked its head around trying either to take the board from him or to knock him over. He said the animal was snarling at him and looking up at him as it bit down on the board. My husband told the ski patrol about it.
They apparently didn't do anything about this coyote until a few weeks later when it tried to attack a ten year old skier. At that point they finally hunted it down and shot it. It was not rabid, as far as I know.
Anyway, it makes me think a little more when I'm up the the hills with my young kids... or I should say it makes me think about more than bears and mountain lions...
Check out this story on the rising incidences of coyote attacks in urban areas...
