Two Fire Trucks Collide in Popular Houston Neighborhood

9 Fire Fighters, two civilians injured, one critical

We first saw three helicopters hovering over an intersection a few blocks away near a favorite corner cafe where most of our friends go everyday. As we approached all we could see were emergency vehicles, yellow caution tape, and beyond that the scene of the accident. While responding to what turned out to be a false alarm, two fire trucks collided at the intersection of Westheimer and Dunlavycausing one to flip over on top of a car waiting at the light, but the driver was lucky enough to get out and walk away. Calls came in from our friends with a little more news each time. I cannot confirm anything but the word is that a girl who worked at a nearby boutique was riding her bike to work when one of the trucks landed on her. The bicyclist has been identified as Leigh Boone. Her mother, who rushed to Houston from Austin after learning about the accident, said Boone has a broken clavicle and possible brain damage. Boone was in critical condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital at last check.
