Our family is not a “political” one. We are independent voters and will remain so. I had a goal, as a writer, to make my wife happy. She stayed on me about “writing to the president and sharing hope for his challenges”.

A letter was written and a few weeks later a nice response arrived in the mail. I knew that he actually had read the letter our family had sent. I didn’t write the “President” I wrote to the man. The response did not come back in the form of fancy gold leaf paper. It could have. This office is the highest in our land. It arrived on a simple piece of paper.

As a writer I was glad to know that I could shape the words of hope in ways that inspired him. We shared about how life is as regular Americans and the struggles that we all face. I was honored that the President of the United States had read even one sentence of my writings. This was not a PR gimmick or anything like that. He was a president seated in power.

When one voice can believe that it matters amazing things take place.
