Are you a Beatlemaniac? |
BEATLEMANIA - A GREAT CULTURAL REVOLUTION
Guys really wore what they wore. My brother and I went to England and he bought a kind of suit that made him look like a character in a play. I was living in Toronto as a "landed immigrant" and I went to a live concert of theirs. The lightbulbs going off on all of the cameras in the audience were like strobe lights; the noise of the crown drown out the sound from the stage and made me nauseas. It was truly amazing - people in an absolute frenzy. Young women were sobbing with joy. My boyfriend and I retreated, opened a fire door and watched the whole thing from the top of a fire escape with a police officer. No one could hope to survive inside the threatre without dammage to some part of their being. Their first records in North America were released while I was living there. I bought not only the Canadian but the US releases. All of us took good care of these albums from day one because the Beatles did give a us sense of history. We instinctively knew something special was going on. They ushered in a great cultural shift..The picture above is of the cover of their first album released in the US. I actually love their earlier songs rather that many of the later ones. But I did love George Harrison on the sitar. And Ringo is a delight anytime. Nothing like their "invasion" has been like it since - nothing. They could have taken over the entire country without firing a shot
