This iReport is part of an assignment:
Time for gun control? |
This Kills More People Than Guns
Drunk Driving Killed 13,000 People in the U.S. in 2007.
That was the lowest on record. Back in the 80s it was over 20,000. In 2003 drunk drivers killed 18,000. Deaths by gun violence last year was 11,000 per one of the gun control iReporters. I didn't verify his number. But in the best year of drunk driving deaths it was still 2000 more than deaths by guns. Drunk Driving is illegal. It has very heavy fines and legal fees. It is also considered murder most places if you kill someone while driving intoxicated. Therefore it is banned.
Guns are legal. If we make them illegal and ban them just like drunk driving will gun violence go away? Drunk driving hasn't gone away with all the laws against it.
Banning guns will just make criminals of lawful gun owners.
It would be pointless to ban guns. Look how well it's worked in Washington DC. It's still the gun death capital of the US. I'm not a wild-eyed gun nut. I just don't think a gun ban will work.
