Georgian Orthodox Church celebrates Palm Sunday today

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II calls upon the Georgian people to listen to each other. `We all love our homeland, but a man should not to be seized with haughtiness. It is one of the hardest mortal sins`, Ilia II said in his sermon at the Tbilisi Holy Trinity Cathedral.

Catholicos-Patriarch blessed all Georgia and consecrated willow-branches after preaching. The Georgian president attended the divine service with his family.

The ceremony of consecrating willow-branches was carried out at all acting churches of Georgia. The Orthodox Church is celebrating Palm Sunday today, which always falls on the Sunday before Easter Sunday. The feast commemorates an event mentioned by all four Canonical Gospels the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem in the days before his Passion. Palm Sunday is a Christian moveable feast, Reportedly, this day commemorates the event, which happened 2,000 years ago, when Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem. He was welcomed with flowers, and children strew his way with palm leaves.
