Twitter Revolution: First Victim
Valeriu Boboc, 23 years old, have died in Moldova during so called Twitter Revolution, an uprise of young Moldovans against its communist government. Text messaging among students, twitts and facebook posts overnight turned into a crowd of 10,000 who set on fire parliment and presidents buildings. Communist government responded with arrests, beating, closing borders, expelling journalists, shutting down internet and cell phone services.
Police sais that Valeriu Boboc died of suffocation with the undesclosed substance used by police to disperse the crowd. Earlier reports said that anti-demonstration gear and gas arrived to Moldova from Russia at the beginning of the riots.
The victim's family believes a 23 old father of one died of beating by police. Valeriu was arrested by police, his head and all body was covered with bruises and injuries. There are other reports about severe beating of demonstrators by police. US embassy in Moldova expressed its concerns regarding violation of human rights in Moldova.
