Bangkok - The rest of the story
They are indeed armed and stopping vehicles, but it is not all political. While offical Songkran (Thai New Year's) events were cancelled amid the unrest, the Thai people were not all silenced. For Thai New Year, you throw water on people to wish them good luck for the New Year, and they stop cars with water pistols.
