That’s the beauty of the Love Your Family ™ Brand apparel (or LYF) for families that Amber Lipson and Marci Wilding, friends and neighbors in Cary, North Carolina have created. As busy Moms with lots to do (Amber is a parenting author and columnist, a Certified Public Accountant, former Senior Manager in Big 4 public accounting and business consultant to large companies in the Triangle; Marci is a former Washington Congressional lobbyist and executive at the American Cancer Society), Amber and Marci were always searching for ways to deepen their relationships with their children and spend more quality time with them. While researching their idea, they noticed that there were many companies that focused on supporting busy moms, even playfully poking fun at all the many roles that a mother plays and how frantic family life can be, but few that sought to offer families positive messages through apparel. They saw an unfulfilled niche market.           

After going live in December 2006, Footsteps Clothing has exploded from just a few mother-daughter products to offering hundreds of family products for Moms, Dads, kids, baby, grandparents and everyone in the family. They leased a new expanded warehouse and office space in 2008 to accommodate the growing demand. Footsteps Clothing is proud to now employ friends and family members that are struggling in this difficult economy.

Amber attributes their success and growth to “not being afraid to try out-of-box marketing strategies. Not everything works, but we learn quickly and never repeat missteps. First and foremost, we have a great product with a high demand. Especially during tough times, people want to feel the family bond more than ever. Amber and Marci decided to build a brand that not only celebrates family relationships but supports families in being together in a variety of activities. Amber and Marci didn’t just create the Love Your Family brand lifestyle – they live it. Amber treasures her relationship with her ten year old son by training in martial arts together (both are black belts!) and writing stories. Equally special, (yet totally different), is her relationship with her eight year old daughter. They enjoy their time together by playing soccer and reading.

“All relationships in a family are unique and special. We wanted to create a brand of clothing that provided a positive message about families. Everyone knows how stressful raising kids can be. We wanted to take a step back and say – Hey, I love you and I want the whole world to know. My children love when we wear our Love Your Family Brand clothing as it gives them a physical reminder of just how much I love them!”

The uniqueness of family relationships is even more apparent with Marci’s relationships with her 3 girls – 2 of them twins. Marci and six year old Ella enjoy mother-daughter spa nights. With Lily, one of her three year old twins, Marci wrestles and tickles, while with her other twin Anna, she enjoys cuddling and stories.

“We didn’t become Moms to worry about laundry and stress about homework. We became Moms to enjoy our families and spend as much quality time with them as possible.
