The Wealthy and Their Tax Burden

As I watch one of the many Sunday morning news programs I realize the wealthiest Americans are paying a disproportionate amount of our countries taxes and I begin to wonder why. As I sit, watch, think, and type the following is what I have come up with.

Over the past 30 years there has been a realization of the possibility that foreign labor is cheaper due to their low value of currency and even lower standard of living. In the past 20 years there has been an acceleration of how to take advantage of this newly found “cheaper” labor. Unfortunately for those seeking higher profits they forgot to calculate their tax burden in the future. More precisely they didn’t realize the replacement jobs would pay less and this would directly affect their tax burden.

The minimum wage in our country is not the minimum amount needed to support a family. This is why currently approximately 43% of our working population does not pay a Fed Income Tax. This is why those at the top of the tax bracket must pay more. Not only must they pay more of the general tax burden the total cost of that burden is more as well. You see with less people making enough money to support their family more people will need government assistance. Therefore the government has to provide more services.

With this new understanding of who decides wages, it becomes clear these same people create the tax burden and its profile.

The fact is the wealthy and Corporate America have the power to decide how many people pay taxes. If the wealthy or Corporate America want to bear the burden of paying for the American Government they should continue to outsource good jobs to foreign countries.

If they are serious when they say they want to lower their tax burden and have all Americans pay their fair share, I would suggest to them, bring back a few of those outsourced jobs. Bring back some good paying jobs to our great country and let us all pay our fair share.

One of the phrases I continue to hear on the Sunday news programs is “stop taking our money”. It seems to me the ones who most often repeat this statement are the ones who continue to outsource middle America’s  best paying jobs. This action has become more prevalent in an attempt to increase profits.

Our country came to be a world power due to its prevalent middle class. It is a shame Corporate America, in an attempt to enrich its stock holders are bleeding our country of its power.

Personally I am reminded of  two movies The Matrix and Blade Trinity. In The Matrix humans are turned into batteries mounted on towering structures. They are there for one purpose, to generate power for the ruling robots. In Blade humans are being conquered by vampires, but instead of each vampire finding his own blood people are put into a coma wrapped in a giant plastic bag and drained of blood for the remainder of their life.

It is horrendous to think of Corporate America as either blood sucking vampires or amoral robots. It is even more horrendous when you count the growing similarities between the groups.

Years ago Labor Unions were more prevalent in America. They used their collective power to negotiate compensation for Middle America. Unfortunately due to free trade and greedy people in general, the industries who were under contract with the Unions found outsourcing these entire industries were a nice way to sidestep the American Dream.

The rule of unintended consequences reared its head at this point. The corporations who outsourced entire industries now find they must pay for the American Government and are in fact the biggest reason a larger government may be needed.

Another similarity between The Matrix and our current economic situation is the dual realities. In  The Matrix people are hooked into a computer system that tells their brains they are somewhere they are not. We find ourselves in a similar situation. No two news organizations or two political parties put the same spin on current events or history. The many laws and programs put in place after or during The Great Depression are described by some as our greatest hour and others as the worst actions our government has ever taken. In effect a great portion of our country is operating under a false reality.

It is becoming more obvious to me most problems presented to American citizens are not in fact the real problem. Today I have tried to show you one of the problems.
