Fire in Downtown Plymouth
Shortly after 3:30pm Sunday, the sirens blew in downtown Plymouth, Indiana. For the next several hours, 3 local fire departments (Plymouth, Argos, and Bremen) investigated a fire in the 200 Block of Michigan Street (Indiana 17). Smoke was seen billowing from the storefront of Graphic Literature, a local comic shop. It is unclear wether the fire started on the first level or second level residences.
Residents above and adjacent to 207 North Michigan Street were evacuated. No one was in the shop at the time as the store is closed on Sundays. There were no reported injuries at the time. The owner of the building was unavailable for immediate comment.
The cause of the fire is still officially unknown, yet reports at the scene speculate an electrical fire.
**Update: 4/20/09**
According to several local news sources, the cause of the fire was an extention cord in Graphic Literature. Shop owner, Trevor Jaymes, is going to relocate and reopen his shop in Plymouth.
iReporter Ann Wright lives on the 200 block of North Michigan in Plymouth, Indiana. Her building was not affected and not evauated due to the fire.
