    After Columbine

    More from Cortney328

10 years....the memories of that day are still as bright...

10 years ago I was a senior in high school at  a high school in a small town just like Littleton.  I returned home from school to find the news on TV about the shootings at Columbine.  It was shocking to see and hear what was going on.

That night I got a call from a friend of mine who first asked if I heard about the shootings and I said yes and said it was sad and shocking.  She then asked me if there had been a list released of those killed/injured.  Well she went on to tell me she some one that went to Columbine and the girl's sibling also attended the school.

I can't remember if it was that night or the day after or when, but she had me check again and I checked the injured list and neither name was there.  I told her to give them a few days and she would hear from them.  She kept asking me to check and I did check, and found her friend's name on the list of those who died.

It with two words that my life was forever changed by Columbine.  I told my friend that her friend was dead, and 10 years later it still haunts me that I did that.  I lived in fear the days after the shooting fearing it would happen at my own school.

Each year on 4/20, my mind turns to that evening when I found out about the shooting and to reading the name "Rachel Scott" on the phone to her friend to inform her that her friend was among the 13 people dead.  Its with that that my life was forever changed by Eric and Dylan's actions on 4/20/99.
