American Morning: Your questions |
Drug Court. Really?!
The federal government has made it clear they are unwilling or unable to justify their continued refusal to address our failed and expensive drug laws.
Perhaps they actually DO realize marijuana prohibition does not work and has caused a mammoth illicit drug industry in our country. The probably already know it is because of prohibition that we have violent drug cartels and the resultant issues in Mexico.
Why won’t our elected officials give us an honest, informed answer? Do they think if they just ignore us long enough, we’ll shrug our shoulders and give up?!
Let’s follow the logic: Americans spend more than $25 BILLION on marijuana every year. Since we cannot get it in regulated form, like we do our alcohol and tobacco, we get it from whoever sells it, since we aren’t allowed to grow it. Enter the street pusher, who also has a pocket of meth, cocaine, and heroin to offer their customers. AND they don’t card, so your 8-year-old nephew can score a bag of weed and get a free sample of “blow”. The pushers get the drugs from local suppliers who get them from the violent drug cartels. Who do you think is at the end of this twisted rainbow? Terrorists, that’s who.
Mankind has altered its consciousness for many thousands of years, through alcohol, the Pacific betel nut, cannabis and so on. This will never change.
So the federal government has a choice: Legitimize the market through legalization and regulation OR let the terrorists keep their multi-billion dollar industry and hope DRUG COURT will beat them.
