This iReport is part of an assignment:
Lessons from grandma |
Day of Service Columbia SC
The tough economic times has forced many to revert to lessons taught by Grandma. Joe Trapp, director of the Family Home Storage Center in Columbia SC, demonstrates how to can food to Florence Cameron. "Canning is good because it extends the shelf life of the food and it lasts longer. It keeps bugs out of the food. Canning is good for large families," said Cameron. Participants were encouraged to stock their pantry at home in the event of a layoff or other emergency. The event was sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in conjunction with Day of Service events in 11 Southeastern states.
