A New Message For Republicans
I am constantly hearing the call for Republicans to return to Reagan econmics, lower taxes and less government.
I realized when Reagan was elected taxes were much higher than they are now. (appx 70% for top rates) So the coalition was easier to put together due to a more popular thought they were paying unfair taxes.
My thoughts are Reagan Economics and the Reagan coalition will not be able to organize their collective power until the majority in America feel overtaxed.
Currently great percentage of people dont pay Fed income tax. The top 25% pays 86% of Fed income taxes (according to Rush Limbaugh.com). and this number is growing quickly. With more and more good paying jobs being outsourced those percentages will continue to trend in their current directions.
I think maybe the Republicans should come up a different message instead of trying to bring back an old message that in my opinion will not be valid for decades to come. If the Republicans developed a message that had to do with "reducing the tax burden on the wealthy" by "increasing the number of people paying taxes" by "increasing the people's wages" they would find many more people under their tent.
