This iReport is part of an assignment:
Just Imagine |
Future is now on the Internet
By 2020, many of us will continue to become more Cyborg. Examples like what happened yesterday will be more and more common and have the potential to bring business to its knees unless technology shifts to models that do not involve fibers that can be cut by digging machines.
Why this event affecting thousands of people's workday yesterday was not mentioned on national news is beyond me.

TDS Collocation customers - Update
Splicing team from Level 3 is on site working to repair the fiber. Our network management center has been told by Level 3 that Estimated Time of Repair is 6:00pm CST.
A crew digging in an Interstate 94 construction corridor in the Chicago area cut a fiber line this morning, causing major Internet service delays for customers of numerous companies including TDS, Microsoft, Ford and others.
Repair crews had trouble getting to the site because of traffic delays and rules for digging by IL DOT.
We have been told that this affected several OC192 connections and (3) OC48 connections. This is causing delays nationally for other providers and companies.
TDS Traffic was rerouted on other lines to prevent a total outage.
