Have you been judged on looks?

    Judged on Looks

People aren't the only ones judged on looks. My hairless cat (Sphynx) Lucy, has been judged on her appearance, too.

In my eyes, Lucy is the most beautiful cat I've ever seen.  She is sleek and elegant and graceful.  Sphynx have a very distinctive and unique personality.  They are one of the most affectionate and social lap cats there are.  Lucy is no exception.  She is extremely sweet, loving and playful.

When my husband and I first got Lucy, we had just moved into a new house.  There were still a few repairs needing to be done after we moved in, so we had a handyman come over to work on them.  He brought his 9 year old son with him and while he was working, his son saw Lucy.  He had never seen anything like her, so I picked her up to show him.  He said, "UGH!  It's so ugly!"  and slapped the top of her head!  Lucy and I were stunned!  It was totally unexpected and irrational.  I know he was just a kid and all, but, clearly he made a judgement about Lucy solely based on her appearance.  If he'd only taken the time to experience her and know a little more about her, undoubtedly he would have fallen in love with her, like everyone else does.

There have been others that have visited our house, seen Lucy and automatically assumed she is "vicious" "mean" or "scary" just because she is different.   But then, once they get to know her, she quickly becomes their favorite cat.
