This iReport is part of an assignment:
Your school reunion |
Actually it's the Class of 73
Yes I'm real old!
I stop attending mine. I graduated from a school here in South Texas. I was seriously a minority. I wasn’t Hispanic nor was I white so I didn’t fall into any category. We had three Asians and two of them were brother and sister I was the third.
I never fit the mold of the mascot. We had lots of ‘kickers’, ‘regulars’ some hippies and just plain old kids. My high school counselor told me I would be happy doing hard labor. She had no desire to help me find or figure out a way to go to college.
I tried to keep up with some of them via a “my family” page someone created and invited me to. I started playing around the forum which was really getting bored with the every day happy birthday nonsense. This was in 2000 when GW was put into office by the moral right wing tired of the oral office news.
I wasn’t having any part of this new administration hooking up to the religious right wing and its crude understanding of morals, yet 90% of the alumni at McCollum was right wingers. So I took it upon myself to set up an area on the forum to post my daily rants about how the new administration was going about things in some adhoc manner with no other justification than ‘it’s my way or the highway’.
Soon I got a lot of them angry. At our summer 2001 reunion I was approached by the guy who got the site together and was asked to move my rants off the site because two female classmates refused to come to the reunion because I was going to be there.
I left and have never come back. The site folded after a few months and has set up a new site with a rag tag group and isn’t visited as much. I’m constantly being sent invites to attend something but it really doesn’t interest me to go visit a close minded group of right wingers. I’d be afraid that I would get one of them into a rage and he’d go out to his pu truck get his gun and start shooting to prove why he owns a gun.
