    Your school reunion

    Never been to a Reunion

I have never gone to my high school reunions but have had the last laugh.  Growing up I lived back doors to one of the "in" crowd in my high school.  Her name was Suzie (not her real name). She was an only child, beautifully dressed every day and dated the high school jocks.  Was always on one prom committee or another, pictures all over the yearbook, and overall part of the popular group in high school.  I was the oldest of seven children and my parents barely had enough to make ends meet.  My siblings and I looked a little bedraggled most of the time.  My backdoor neighbor never gave me the time of day - frankly I was shunned over the years.

My mother would have a small update on Suzie from time to time.

Suzie never finished college - I did,

She married one of her high school boyfriends - I married a an incredible guy from England whom I met in college,

Her, her husband, and child ended up living with her mother because they couldn't make ends meet - my husband and I worked hard, raised five children, and built a beautiful house on a lake.

Not too long ago she called my mother because she was heading up the committee on our 30th high school reunion and wanted to see out the reunion info.

My mother explained we did have a house at XXXXX Lake and she could send the info there but that I was living off and on over in Asia with my husband - work related.

My mother updated Suzie on my activities over the last thirty years.  She was a little stunned - she said she never would have pictured it.

So for all those Suzies' out there - a lifetime defines a person, not a meager 3-4 years in high school.
