Most of us don't ever think it will happen to us. When it does, our lives are shaken and we are never the same as we were. Our lives are consumed with doctors, tests, treatment, and sometimes just surviving the day. My name is Steve Owens and I am a brain tumor and Cushing's survivor. While I am still fighting the tumor and the disease it causes, I am greatful for the surgery I did have and the relief it offered, even if it was short. I am thankful for the journey that this has brought me to, the people I have met and my life that has changed. We never think it will happen, and we certainly never think it will happen to family when your fighting yourself. Then, one day you wake up, and your daughter is fighting for her life as well. The same disease caused by the same tumors that appear to be a genetic mistake. Then your heart stops, your breath is taken away, and you put on a brave face for your 9 year old daughter because it's all you have to offer. What do you tell your daughter? You tell her the truth, in a way she understands and you suck it up and you do more than survive, you live life. You live life because she is watching your every move and waits and wonders how bad she will get. You become brave not just for you, but for your daughter, your other children and your wife. At the end of the day, it is all you can do. We trust the doctors and other powers to help with the rest. Now, at the end of the day, we have two miracles to pray for. I love you Brooke, and like your father, you will keep on fighting for a cure. Listen to the talk radio show:
